Charcoal portrait
My inspiration for my piece is because I wanted to show how woman feel. I thought by using the different colors, it would show how woman are wonderful and very bright people.
The process of this piece is making sketches first and then tracing onto my final paper. I used vine charcoal first to cover the hair and shoulders. Then use color chalk to make the back ground with just rubbing and blending the colors together. I then use compressed and pencil black and white charcoal to add the fine lines for the hair.
Masters Style
My inspiration for this piece is from myself and a piece I done before. I wanted to challenge myself and do mountains and show more detail in the animal I was doing.
The process for my piece is first sketching out my piece and transferring it onto the canvas. I then added blues, white, grey, and teals in my piece so do the sky. I added black and done the first layer of my mountains. I added different values of grey in my mountains to do some detail. Then added white and light blue to do the snow. I added blue, white and black to make the water and shadow in the water. Then added the wolf and rock. I had to put layers of brown, black and grey to make the fur. I took white and black to make grey and make the stone look.
Surface Manipulation
My piece depicts a ship map with a ship anchor in front of a compass rose and ship steering wheel. My subject matter is ship themed. The title of my piece is Freedom of the Sea. I used shape to make Emphasis in my piece.
I first started with a few pieces that didn’t start right so when I painted over the pen and ink it mixed which came out grey. I thought it was cool, so I stuck with it. I then printed out a ship map and glued it face down on my paper. I took a spray bottle and wet the paper and started rubbing the paper away which came out with just the ink on my paper. I then drew my Anchor, steering wheel and compass rose on a separate sheet of paper.
My inspiration for this piece is I wanted to do something different. I wanted to try a different subject matter. I usually stay doing horses, so I wanted to try something new.
My goal for this piece was for it to be ship themed. I wanted it to show all the elements of the ocean.
I learned not to use to much water when spraying the paper. I wanted to see the map threw the subject matter. I think it was successful because I tried my hardest and got my subject matter done. I believe I could have thought out my planning better then what I done.
Inktober
My piece depicts an owl’s eye, hour glass, dream catcher and a woman’s eye. The owl is just eh first half of the face without an outline. The hour glass has a night with star on top and sun with trees in the bottom. The dream catcher is only partially in the piece. Beside the owl’s eye is a human eye. The back ground is like a galaxy in smoke.
First thing I started to do was tape down the edges and then start with my water color and mixed colors and let them run together. I put two layers of watercolor and then splattered the paint by hitting the brush. I then took white acrylic paint and flicked the brush with my finger to make white splatter. Then I took a sharpie pen and added all my details and finished the drawings.
My inspiration for this piece was that I love owls. They have a mystery and dream like features just like the dream catcher and hour glass. I wanted to show how humans and owls reflect the same. The galaxy is the dreamy feeling.
My goal for this piece was to convey a very strong meaning and make people think hard about what it was. I wanted everyone to have a unique message of this piece.
I learned to not add to much water or it will get over worked. Do not add water if u want it a dark color. I learned how to do the splatter paint. I think it was successful because I got to the deep meaning and dreamy feeling. Next time I could think it out more and not rush myself.
Clay
My piece depicts a sea turtle with a removable turtle shell. It has texture on the fins. The shell has a design as a turtle shell. The turtle is very large and under the shell is dug out to make a bowl. The fins are dug out.
I first started with a slab on clay. I cut out my tear drop shape and then make coils to make the walls for under the shell. I then took a chunk of clay and shaped into the head and fins. I took a tool and dug out the fins and head to make sure there was no air pockets and not to thick to bust.
My inspiration is my mama and my mistakes. My mom loves turtles, which that is what made me get the idea. I tried it one time and it blew up. My mistakes were the challenge for me to try again and do it better.
My goal for this was to make something out of clay that was realistic but had a secret and surprise. I wanted to make something unique. I wanted to make something that meant something to my mama.
I learned to always check to make sure something isn’t to thick. Make sure it has a strong structure. I learned that you do not always have to slip and score if it is the same wetness.
Art show
My piece depicts a vase upside down is four different seasons. I have summer, it has a lighthouse, beach and ocean. Fall shows a big oak tree with orange, red and yellow leaves. It has a dirt walkway path. Winter shows mountains and green trees with snow falling and a snow cloud. Spring has a stream with a bridge crossing. There is a big Japanese cherry blossom tree with pink flowers. You turn the vase to see different scenes.
I started with finding a case the right size. I tried to make a horizon line the same way all the way around with tape, but it didn’t work so I took a ruler and held it straight up and down and made marks at the 3-inch mark. I then had to add layers and layers of colors to cover the glass. I then added my details with a small brush.
My inspiration for this piece is to try something new. Nobody has done anything like this. North Carolina has a lot to do with the seasons. You can have all four seasons in one day in North Carolina. Just like I have four seasons on one vase.
My goal for this piece was to make a realistic original piece. I wanted to do something nobody has done. Well at least you don’t see much of. I wanted to show the beauty of all four seasons and how different they are.
I learned to make sure you have plenty of layers and a lot of paint. Make sure you have the right color. Don’t be so worried about it being perfect because nothing can be perfect.
